    My amber :)

Post  macrocephale on Wed Mar 14, 2012 3:47 am

Apart from one piece of copal (which I don't have photos of and was a christmas present) and one piece of Dominican amber (I'll label it further down), this is mostly Baltic amber, dating back 40-55 Ma, making it early-mid eocene.
I'm trying to get hold of an identification text book for Baltic Amber, but they are quite rare so it may be a while before I can put some solid names on these.
Also, all of these will be at the next fossil meeting on the 31st of March!
    1. Spider

    2. Spider

    3. Fly

    4. Insect

    5. Insect + Broken insect wings

    6. Insect

    7. Spider

    8. Spider + Wasp?

    9. Waspy thing?

    10. Detrital insect

    11. Spider

    12. Dominican Amber

    13. Cockroach!

There are also some pieces of unpolished copal I'll have with me as well, with inclusions, including ants and at least one spider, however they're not great for taking pictures of until I can clean them up a bit..

Some beautiful pieces! I too collect amber and was going to start an amber topic like this yesterday but didn't.
I love the insect a lot, nice sizes of the pieces. Very Happy
